Immer lauter wurden dabei Proteste, die zu einer Umgestaltung oder sogar einer Abschaffung der Reform aufriefen. Seit dieser Zeit wird der Bologna-Prozess häufig als ideologische Katastrophe betitelt. Diese Aussage, sowie das eigene Unwissen über die genaue Entstehung, die Ziele und die Umsetzung der Reform, gaben mir den Anstoß mich mit der Frage auseinanderzusetzen, ob der Bologna-Prozess tatsächlich eine Katastrophe für alle Beteiligten darstellt oder ob es sich hier um unbegründete Schwarzmalerei handelt. Das Ziel meiner Arbeit ist einerseits zu klären, wann und warum entstand die Idee zur Reform des europäischen Hochschulsystems und wie wurde sie umgesetzt. Andererseits möchte ich versuchen eine Antwort auf die Frage, ob der Bologna-Prozess ein besseres Hochschulsystem hervorbringt oder ob er lediglich eine ideologische Katastrophe ist, zu finden.
Zunächst möchte ich über die Ursprünge des Bologna-Prozesses informieren und darstellen wie es zu dieser Reform kam. Dabei wird verdeutlicht, welche Ziele durch die Reform verwirklicht werden sollten und wie diese im Verlauf des Prozesses weiterentwickelt und neu formuliert wurden. Daraufhin wird aufgezeigt, wie die Ziele umgesetzt wurden und welche Veränderungen dies für die Hochschulen und ihre Studierenden mit sich brachte. Anschließend soll einerseits dargelegt werden, welche Probleme die Umgestaltung des Hochschulsystems mit sich bringt und andererseits welche Chancen sich aus dieser für die Hochschulen und Studenten ergeben.
